Description-
  • Based on the most current nutritional information, this concise guide offers new mothers a focused introduction to feeding babies healthy, nutritious foods during their first 12 months of life. With whimsical illustrations and clever recipe names—such as “Cereal Symphony" and “Adam's Eggless Bananawama Muffins"—this handbook even introduces the concept of becoming the executive chef for any parent's new 24-hour home bistro. Filled with colorful asides such as “Foolish Fats," “Funky Fruits," and “Meat Monsters," this compendium is ideal for both working and stay-at-home moms, eliminating the stress from a baby's first year by blending the basics of good nutrition with sound advice. Tips are offered throughout to help parents develop an approach to food that is easy, organized, and fun. Features on shopping and topics such as how to read a food label are also included.

Excerpts-
  • The Baby Bistro My Journey

I chose to learn a lot about something that has always fascinated me—nutrition. My childhood memories involve planting seeds, tending gardens, and eating fresh fruits and vegetables, with my mother in the background explaining the important vitamins in each. “Carrots help build strong eyesight,” she repeated almost daily.

In school, I set out to decipher nutritional facts from fiction. I studied alternative nutrition science, earning a Nutrition Educator certification, and from there I moved into mainstream nutrition and food science, gaining a Master of Science degree. In my graduate work, I discovered that my passion resided in the interplay of nutrients and crucial developmental stages of life.

Shortly after graduation, my friends and my sister began having babies and asking me questions about what, how, and when to feed their newborns. I became concerned with the gap between the findings in nutrient research that had existed for years and the awareness among parents outside the academic environment. I searched bookstores for a complete, easy to comprehend, fun infant feeding book to suggest to my pregnant friends, but could find nothing.

My sister and I were taking her seven-month-old, Adam, for a walk along Shoreline Park one sunny day and talking about how moms were hungry for credible infant nutritional information. My first product, the Baby Bistro Box®, was born from that discussion. The “box” contained infant feeding advice written in a recipe-like format on cards. Th e Toddler Bistro Box® followed two years later, as my mommy readers asked what to do after year one!

The Baby Bistro and Toddler Bistro books represent my passion and commitment to put important information about feeding infants and toddlers into the hands of parents and caregivers. Of course, you cannot be the perfect parent and know everything, but hopefully these books will empower you with the knowledge you’ll need to build a healthful foundation for your growing family that lasts a lifetime.

The Baby Bistro menu is your gourmet tour to healthy feeding. Starters and First Course prepare you with important nutritional and safety information as you dive into the Entrées section, where you’ll progress through your baby’s feeding stages and try some babylicious recipes. Á la Carte suggests side portions of information about supplements and nutrients to enhance the feeding experience for you and your baby. Desserts are just that—the final course that is a surprise that you’ll have to wait for until you fi nish your “meal.” Don’t even think about cheating and reading the end fi rst! All in all, this Baby Bistro is about helping you successfully run your own exclusive bistro for your baby.

    Happy feeding!
